'Heroine' is a beautiful love story

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 10:59 AM PST

Madhur Bhandarkar's "Heroine" primarily revolves around Kareena Kapoor's character, but Arjun Rampal asserts it is a beautiful love story.

"Bebo is the protagonist of the film and she has a very good part in it. But it is also a beautiful love story about what happens to two characters from the same line of work and how much misunderstanding is created by people who are supposed to make that communication easier," the 39-year-old actor said at an event here.

Kareena plays an actress who touches the heights of fame and then falls from glory.

Asked about his role, Arjun said: "It's going to be a Madhur Bhandarkar film which deals with a lot of layers of reality and that's what I enjoy doing. I like all my characters to have a certain level of realism. I hope to portray it with conviction and not in a caricaturist manner."

Arjun debuted in Bollywood with 2001 movie "Pyaar, Ishq Aur Mohabbat" but had to wait for a long time to find a firm foothold.

He was first appreciated for his role in "Don - The Chase Begins" (2006) and then people liked him in the negative role in "Om Shanti Om". But he came into his own as a brooding musician in "Rock On!!" and continued it with "Raajneeti".

"Heroine" is expected to hit theatres September this year.

I wouldve made Agneepath under RK banner - Rishi Kapoor Part 2

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 10:26 AM PST

Rishi Kapoor Cute, sweet, adorable, honest and mangled versions of many are some of the ways you'd like to describe Rishi Kapoor when you meet him in person. But when I informed him about the mad buzz of his movie Agneepath, he remarked, "Why are you making a mountain out of a molehill? I'm just playing a small role in the movie and that too a negative one." But it's only by the end of the interview that you come to know the depth of his role and the magnitude of the movie, small or big, doesn't matter. So don't jump off your seats because the intensity he brings to his role of Rauf Lala might surprise anyone who is used to the cool, calm and composed Rishi Kapoor. Presenting you Part 2 of Rauf Lala special. Here we go again!

"You'll see a new Dharma Productions coming out once Agneepath releases"
If given a chance, RK Films would've made Agneepath today. Yes, I'd take that risk. Studios like YRF too are taking such risks. They've made films like Dhoom, Chak De, Band Baaja Baaraat, etc. The purpose of a production house is to give you varied entertainment. When the first trailer was introduced and the logo of Dharma Productions came out, Karan Johar told me that it can't be so mushy mushy. Let's hope Karan comes out with something what Warner Bros, Columbia Tristar, Sony Pictures do really well with all their pictures with the kind of genre their movie is. Once the movie releases, you'll see a new Dharma Productions coming out.

Rishi Kapoor "Rauf Lala and Kancha Cheena don't get along with each other"
This whole role of Rauf Lala was difficult for me to do. I had to be convincing and that was vital. I have a very important scene in Agneepath with Sanjay Dutt. We don't share screen space other than that. Rauf Lala and Kancha Cheena don't get along with each other. Off screen, we do get along though (laughs).

"Karan wanted the elements of Rauf Lala's look from Akbar of Amar Akbar Anthony"
My look was inspired somewhere from Amar Akbar Anthony. Yes, the 'kaajal' is from there. But we still had to get away from it. I also got the netted vest for Agneepath. That too came from Amar Akbar Anthony. Then Mandira, my dress designer, dressed me in the pathanis and took it to another level. I did suggest the hat that Rauf Lala sports sometimes in the movie. But overall it's a team effort and even Karan Malhotra and Johar were instrumental in designing Rauf Lala.

"What goes in favour of Karan Malhotra is his sense of drama and conviction"
Karan Malhotra is an adamant director. I like the opposite. But that's the only thing that goes against him. I like a director who gives me a free hand. I am not a studied actor nor a method actor. I am a spontaneous actor. My one take from the other will not be the same. What goes in favour of Karan Malhotra is everything else - his sense of drama, sense of conviction and knowing what he wants to get out of his actors, etc. It's his first film and I can understand that. He is very convinced and focused right now.

Rishi Kapoor "This isn't a complaint to these young talents. This is an observation from one senior actor"
I found the same thing with Zoya Akhtar too in Luck By Chance. This isn't a complaint to these young talents. This is an observation from one senior actor to someone younger to me. Not that the actors mess around with the free hand given to them. I hope Karan takes this in the right spirit because I look at him and Zoya as children too.

"I've sung a bit of qawali in Agneepath"
I'm not shaking a leg in Agneepath but I'm definitely singing in the movie. It's a qawali. I've sung half the song but it's a very important song as the qawals (men who sing) are praising the God and Rauf Lala, the character I play, thinks he is God. Rauf Lala is a mad man. I don't want to reveal what happens in the music interlude because just at the end of the song is the intermission and what happens at this point is the most important thing in the movie.

Kunal Kapoor romancing Abhishek's cousin Naina Bachchan

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 06:59 AM PST

Kunal Kapoor whisks his rumoured sweetheart Naina Bachchan off to London where he's shooting for his next

It's certainly not 'all work and no play' for Kunal Kapoor in London.

In the British capital for a schedule of his next Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, the actor is enjoying a seemingly well-deserved holiday on the side with his rumoured sweetheart Naina Bachchan.

Abhishek Bachchan's cousin and the youngest of Ajitabh's daughters, Naina started her career as an investment banker. She soon, however, ventured into acting in plays.

She met Kunal at a theatre workshop and the rest, as they say, is history!

A source close to the Kapoor lad spills the beans.

"They are still in that 'getting to know each other better' phase and want to spend more and more time together.

Kunal's continuous shoots have played spoilsport and have kept him away from his ladylove who lives in Delhi.

Check Out Minissha Lamba in Joker

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 06:01 AM PST

News Network, Jan 10, 2012 - 17:19 IST Minissha Lamba
Director Shirish Kunder tweeted an exclusive image of Minissha's look in his sci-fi film Joker. The cute and chirpy actress plays the role of a news reporter and is paired opposite Shreyas Talpade in the film. It was easy for Minissha to prepare for the role as she loves to read and watches a lot of news to be up-to-date with all the current affairs.

Minissha had earlier portrayed the role of a journalist in her film Shaurya but her role in Joker is very different from that in Shaurya. Shirish reportedly chose Minissha for this role because of her innocent looks which he felt is perfect for the part.

Kareena says not to Shahrukh's 'Ra.One' sequel

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 05:00 AM PST

Kareena Kapoor who is at the peak of her career shows least interest in signing 'Ra.One' sequel. Shahrukh Khan wants to repeat Bebo in the sequel but she is not keen to sign 'Ra.One' sequel.

Kareena who is busy promoting 'Ek Main Aur Ek Tu' upset King Khan when she showed her disinterest in the sequel. Made on a budget of 145 crores, the film earned negative comments from critics. The film was highly promoted, Shahrukh had invested his money, time and energy in making the film a blockbuster but it did not get expected return. The film was ranked average. SRK also roped international singer Akon but unfortunately the film could not impress the audience.

The bad reviews did not dishearten Shahrukh and he got up to make up the loopholes and live up to the expectation of the audience by making a sequel to the film. Apart from Kareena, the film also had Arjun Rampal.

Well, with Kareena Kapoor stepping out of the sequel, Shahrukh Khan might be in hunt of a new female lead. Let's wait and see who that lucky one is.

Dangerous Ishq is worth a watch in 3D - Rajniesh

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 02:26 AM PST

"Dangerous Ishq is worth a watch in 3D" - Rajniesh By Devansh Patel, Jan 11, 2012 - 11:46 IST Rajneesh DuggallModel turned actor Rajniesh is having a ball of a time as of now. He has just returned from Rajasthan and is ecstatic. His movie Dangerous Ishq directed by Vikram Bhatt is all wrapped up and is in post production, he has just romanced Karisma Kapoor for 90 days in the movie, he has got his first ever overseas movie release and he has interacted with Chris Kroitor - a 3D supervisor for Michael Bay's Transformers. Can we say Rajniesh is on cloud nine with Dangerous Ishq getting bigger and better? The actor quotes, "Dangerous Ishq is getting bigger than my debut film 1920, that's for sure. It's good for me and the film if you think so. The fact that Vikram Bhatt is shooting it in 3D makes it even majestic. We've got a team of five flown down from Canada and one of them, Chris Kroitor, is the main supervisor of Michael Bay's Transformers who is a 3D systems tech guy. With that, Reliance Big Pictures came in straight away and there were lots of expectations. And of course, Dangerous Ishq is Karisma's return to the big screen again and every step the movie is getting bigger and better."

Pitted as Karisma's comeback movie, I ask the actor to give us some insight into his different look that spans across four different era's, "In this film, Karisma and I have four different looks. We go back to the Meera Bai era, 1947 to the present 2012 look. I don't want to reveal too much. There are different levels of characters I am playing. Like in the 1947 look, I have a beard and long hair and I am playing a Muslim character. So I'm just not restricted to playing one man with same looks. It's a challenge for any male actor in today's time. Like how Sanjeev Kumar played in Naya Din Nai Raat", Rajniesh comments.

And with such a hiatus in building his overseas fans, what does he think Dangerous Ishq will bring to him in terms of fan following? To which Rajniesh quotes, "The time has come I build my overseas fan base with Dangerous Ishq because it will be releasing worldwide. This is good for me because my previous two movies were restricted to India alone. Dangerous Ishq is a benchmark film for me."

Rajneesh DuggallRomancing new comers like Adah Sharma and Roshni Chopra, this is the first time where Rajniesh, relatively a newcomer himself, is romancing his senior and one of 1990's most glamorous and beautiful faces, Karisma Kapoor. Romancing the Kapoor ain't that easy but Rajniesh is one lucky individual. "It feels good to romance Karisma Kapoor and join the band of brothers like Salman, Govinda, Akshay, etc (laughs). She is a fantastic actor and a fabulous co-star to act with. It adds on to the whole chemistry. She is a senior to me and I have learnt how to handle multiple jobs and how to be good at multi-tasking. It's amazing how a woman can do this", the actor declares.

But for Rajniesh, the actor, it's the experience that counts. The valued time for him as an artist who saw things differently by observing his senior Karisma. "She has a habit of watching her every take. I don't do that but it's always nice to know how interested an actor is and what she can add on to her role. It's like even though the director is OK sometimes, you as an actor can make that take even better and sometimes it works. I loved Karisma in Zubeida, Fiza, Judwaa, Haseena Maan Jaayegi and Anari with Venkatesh", Rajniesh quotes.

Now if you look at it, besides it being a Rajneesh-Karisma starrer and a film directed by Vikram Bhatt, what makes Dangerous Ishq special is that the film is shot in 3D and not converted. The film fraternity around the globe going crazy over 3D, and I ask Rajniesh what makes his movie worth a watch in the 3 Dimensional. The actor answers, "Overall in the world, there is a survey done that people love seeing action, horror and thrillers in 3D. No one wants to see a comedy or a love story in 3D. Dangerous Ishq has all the above. It's a love story with a thrill, action and a bit of suspense."

Sudeep not fit for Celebrity Cricket League 2012?

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 01:06 AM PST

As you can see from the photo here, it is very likely that he will have to opt out of the coveted tournament

Sudeep has reported injured hurt even before the second season of Cricket Celebrity League could kick off. He had led the Bangalore Bulldozers in the first season, but it seems he won't be able to do it this time around. The Kannada star injured his right hand while practising for a match. Doctors say that it's a hairline fracture and have advised him to not strain his hand any more than necessary. So Sudeep will have to opt out of the initial matches of the tournament. Tch Tch! Looks like Bangalore Bulldozers will have to look for a new leader now, at least for the initial matches. So who will it be?

We've heard that Darshan, who's joined the team only this year will probably lead the team. Veteran cricketer G R Vishwanath, who is in charge of the selection committee, is in the process of finalising the 16-member squad for this year's CCL. But captaincy for a first-time player? It's time to cross your fingers, Bangalore Bulldozers.

Vidya Balan: It was not tough to play a pregnant woman

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 11:06 PM PST

If she effortlessly essayed the role of a sex symbol in The Dirty Picutre, it was a cakewalk to play a pregnant woman in search of her husband in Kahaani, says Vidya Balan

"It was not tough at all. During our college life, we used to do all the nautankis and these stand-up items. And my favourite role would always be of a pregnant woman. So the walk and all came to me very naturally," said Vidya. The actor ruled Bollywood as Silk last year in The Dirty Picture and it seems she wants to take it forward with Kahaani as she is aggressively promoting the movie. If she dressed like her character for the promotion of The Dirty Picture, the actor appeared with a baby bump at the Kahaani promotional event.Kahaani, scheduled to release March 9, is not the first film to feature her as a mother – in Paa and Heyy Babyy too she had played a mom. Besides her hard work, Vidya can't stop praising director Sujoy Ghosh's efforts and said, "He is very energetic. We managed to shoot continuously for 64 days without any break. Sujoy would not let the mood drop."

Vidya, who started her career with Pradeep Sarkar and went on to work with acclaimed directors like Priyadarshan, R Balakrishnan and Abhishek Chaubey, hasn't got an opportunity to repeat her directors. When asked about it, she said, "I don't make any rules. I would be happy to work with the directors with whom I have already worked. A few times it didn't work out. Maybe in future I will work with them. I am very greedy." The Dirty Picture was with director Milan Luthria and the film became a super-duper hit.

Emraan back in OUATIM 2

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 10:16 PM PST

Emraan Hashmi While Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 is going through yet another round of musical chairs, the latest piece of news that has been floating in the B-town is around the comeback of Emraan Hashmi in the much acclaimed sequel. While names like Shahid Kapoor and Imran Khan were being thrown around during last few weeks, it was finally being 'declared' that it is none other than Emraan himself who would be rubbing shoulders with Akshay Kumar.

"Opposite Akshay Kumar, there is requirement of a relatively younger leading man to feature in the film. Ekta Kapoor and Milan Luthria have been brainstorming to get the right man for the job for quite some time now. Shahid Kapoor and Imran Khan have been sent feelers as well but nothing has been finalized yet. Now there are solid indications of Emraan being summoned for the job", says an industry observer.

However, there hasn't been any confirmation in this regard as well since Emraan himself is ultra busy and hardly has any dates for next one and a half years at the least. He is currently wrapping up Jannat 2, is about to begin Raaz 3, promote Shanghai, begin ground work on Daayan and then is expected to step into Karan Johar's next production as well. In the middle of this all, he has Rajkumar Gupta's Ghanchakkar to kick-start too.

"Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai has already been postponed and won't make it to August this year, which was the earlier plan. If at all it releases this year, it won't be before December that seems unlikely though", says a trade analyst, "After all, Akshay Kumar already has three confirmed releases this year in Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore and Joker. Then there is Khiladi 786 - Made In Punjab and one more film expected to go on floors too. It is humanly impossible for him to get started with another film so soon and release it by end of year, especially when the other lead is yet to be finalized."

Meanwhile a source close to Emraan does confirm that he is most definitely not the other lead in the film. In fact the actor is not even aware of the current developments surrounding the film and is totally clueless around all the speculations making rounds.

"When this news started floating around, Emraan was holidaying during the New Year. Soon after his return, he has resumed shooting for Jannat 2 and would now step into Raaz 3 straight away. As far as he is concerned, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 is not a film which was ever in his agenda. He has already moved on to his half a dozen other assignments that are keeping him occupied", informs his friend.

Guess Ekta and Milan may have to do some more head hunting here!

'Most award nominations are undeserving, I'll boycott them all'

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 05:06 PM PST

Rues Emraan Hashmi who has now decided to boycott all award galas unless he is paid to perform there

He may have two of last year's biggest hits in his kitty, (Murder 2 and The Dirty Picture), but Emraan Hashmi has surprisingly failed to win any nomination in two of this year's most popular award events.

Probably why he has now decided to stay away from award functions, unless he's paid to perform there.

The actor says, "Best of luck to everyone who wants to be party to it, but I find it an ordeal to sit through an award function.

Anyway it's never on merit. I think most of the nominations are undeserving and I can't sit through the circus. Ultimately, the audience's verdict is more important for me. That's my trophy."

The actor is obviously upset about not being acknowledged for his role in The Dirty Picture which earned him accolades from the critics as well as the crowds.

He adds, "I may not be the darling of award ceremonies, but I'm the people's champion. I'd rather be declared a winner by the nation, than by a jury of a dozen odd people."

The actor seems to be following in the footsteps of Salman Khan who only performs at such functions if he is paid to do so or else does not even bother to attend.

Not just that, he also claims that award functions simply want to ride on the success of the film and nothing more. "It's the audience who makes a film popular.

The award functions just want to ride on that. So if it's between a billion people and a few jury members, I'd rather choose the former."

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu music review

Posted: 12 Jan 2012 01:47 PM PST

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu Imran Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Boman Irani, Ram Kapoor and Ratna Pathak Shah By Satyajit, Glamsham Editorial Send to Friend

Youthful rom-com are the promising rage and genre of multiplexes and the fresh take on modern-age romance to makes its vibrant waves is EK MAIN AUR EKK TU. Basking in glory of magnanimously successful musical releases in the past, Dharma Productions and Karan Johar makes their first strong dent in this genre through this frothy comical romantic flick. Amit Trivedi, a promising name in the cadre of upcoming musical composers is the 'chosen-one' along with Amitabh Bhattacharya being the lyricist for this youthful album. So far it has been dream run of success for Amit Trivedi as all his albums has been eye-grabbing (if not chartbusting) in the marquee. Can this peppy fun-fare be the one that set the dice rolling for him and making him a hot-selling chartbusting commodity in the tinsel town? Let's find out...

Close on heels to the title track of ANJAANA ANJAANI, the title track of this flick opens up like a flamboyant party feasting 'club-dancing' number that not only enthralls but also spreads the positive word for the flick (EK MAIN AUR EKK TU) in the first soundtrack 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu'. Intoxication is again the 'catch-word' to entice urbane listeners, as now Benny Dayal suave tones and Anushka Manchanda's yuppie friendly voice lifts the spirits and makes this a friendly title track. Amit Trivedi's trendy orchestrations are too high on club-DJ antics and lesser on instrumentals but still befit the racy moods of the situation. Shefali Alvaris's slender vocals in the backdrop give it a crispy crunch of chic happenings in the backdrop. Fun enters into Planet disco-zone in 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (remix)' with pleasing dosages of beat-juggles, DJ spins, mixing well into the racy composition and giving many reasons to shake booty on floors. Trivedi delivers a potential 'yuppie-friendly' title track that should be going well with metro-centric audiences.

Balloons of hope floats in air! Archetypically flavors of 70's rock 'n' roll melodic flair that amused senses in 'Shaam' (AISHA) bounces back with synergy of optimism in impressive rendered 'Gubbare'. It's as narrative as 'Dhoop ke Makan' (BREAK KE BAAD) where ethics of jazz (soft-drums, piano drills, hand-claps) are infused to give it a somber 'party' ambience. Nikhil D'Souza's boyish tones are appealing in varying textures and mellow meticulously with the serene westernized arrangements. Shilpa Rao's added vocal support adds to the charm while Amit Trivedi's effective back-up chorals lifts the entire decorum. Conceived to enthrall urbane-listeners and also as an effective background score for the flick, it has effective 'guitarist' singing attire appeal that should draw worthy applause from classy young listeners. Impressive!!!

Sticking to the roots of old-fashioned cultural westernized musical appeal, Trivedi experiments with American folk style of composing and blends it with Bollywood's 60's dancing feast in jovial sounding 'Auntyji'. After delivering couple of impressive somber love ballads, Ash King tries out his hand at frolicsome singing in this situational dancing track. Amitabh Bhattacharya's loquaciously loud wordings are erratic at places and fail to evoke desired humorous punches. Trivedi's composition has faint shades of ever-popular American folk song 'Cotton eyed Joe' (Rednex) that connects with fusion of 60's jazz music but the impact is too average. It's noble as well as innovative gesture but the end results are not as generous as one expects from the zeal and efforts, overall a mediocre track that should be more eye-feasting on big screen than easygoing on ears.

From cultural roots to the contemporary 'soul' musical appeal, the album moves impressively into the comfort zones of soothing melody in well-nurtured soundtrack titled 'Aahatein'. Like previously heard 'Gubbare', this whispered in genteel toned love-track is a classy listener delight that has its hearts and senses at right places. Karthik's subtle singing in whispering tones has soulful impulse that stays throughout the track. Shilpa Rao's genteel paced addition adds to the lovable romantic hues. It's a great listening experience where composer's brawny skills at soothing instrumentals work positively in delivering out a comforting adorable ballad. Shekhar Ravijani replaces impressive Karthik in its 'remix' version, a lounge cum club cocktail feasting number that relies primarily on the comforting romantic feel of the track. It's an occasional mood-reliever sort of 'remix' work that will surely 'cool-down' tempers of the dance floors. Adorable!!!

CHECK OUT: Is Imran repeating himself in EMAET?

As the album culminates into climax, the anecdotes of this 'prem-kahani' has finally comes to a feasible ending and it arrives in pleasant sounding 'Kal Chalna Shuru'. Like thematically inclined and sentimentally rendered 'Anjaana Anjaani' (ANJAANA ANJAANI), it showcases the panoramic views of all the highs and lows of the love story and also spreads the positive word for the title of the flick. Vishal Dadlani softens his vocal chords to varying tones and jesters out varied moods and shades of all the frolicsome happenings. Shilpa Rao booming voice too sounds like a solace and all together it's a decent melodramatic musical feature that should work positively in the closing stages of the flick.

EK MAIN AUR EKK TU is a typical multiplex friendly musical entertainer; a tailor made album to suit the sensibilities and tastes of niche urbane listeners. This may not be as one of the most swashbuckling offering from the producers but surely a laudable listening feast from the entire musical team. As far as quality and performances are concerned, sentimental tracks outsmarts peppy numbers and gives sufficient reasons to cheer about. Among the credit listing, soundtracks like 'Gubbare' and 'Aahatein' will surely draw applause from classy listeners while the title track is an amiable musical effort.

Rating : 3/5

Arjun Rampal, Hrithik Roshan was among the best buddies of Shahrukh Khan. They support one another, party together, shares a great personal and professional relationship. Now, the question is what went wrong among them that suddenly Hrithik and Arjun gave a cold shoulder to SRK.

At photographer Dabboo Ratnani's calendar launch, Hrithik Roshan and Arjun Rampal snubbed King Khan. Everyone noticed that when Shahrukh arrived at the party his close friends Arjun Rampal and Hrithik Roshan immediately left the venue.

An eyewitness said, "When Shah Rukh entered Olive (where the party was being held), we saw Arjun leave just then. They did not greet each other. Hrithik did the same. He was getting some pictures shot outside the gallery area and left the minute SRK came."

It is assumed that Priyanka Chopra's issue might be the case. When Gauri was going through rough phase in her life following SRK-Priyanka's alleged affair, Arjun and Hrithik tried to persuade SRK to keep distance from Piggy Chops which was not taken in a positive way by King Khan.
