I was apprehensive to play married woman: Mona Singh

Posted: 22 Jan 2012 08:34 PM PST

Mona said she could not relate herself with the character of a married woman when Ekta narrated the script to her. (Express photo) 'Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin' fame Mona Singh, who is making her comeback into fiction after six years years with Ekta Kapoor's 'Kyaa hua tera Vaada', says she was hesitant to play a homemaker in the television soap.

Singh, 31, who started off her career by playing a nerd in the 2003 soap, said she could not relate herself with the character of a married woman when Ekta narrated the script to her.

"I became a prominent face of reality shows either as a host or a participant. I was enjoying that phase of me career till one fine day I got a call from Ekta to work with her in a soap. I was hesitant to go back to soap because they (soap) don't leave any scope to do something else simultaneously.

"Ekta said she wrote the script keeping me in mind and she she will drop her show if I don't take up the role. Therefore, I could not say 'no' to her and took it as a challenge to play a married woman," said Singh.

For playing the character of mother-of-three, she has lost eight kgs and started observing her parents and married friends to get into the skin of the character.

"I always try to bring variations into my character in terms of its appearance. My get up in 'Jassi Jaise...' was completely out of the box and in this serial I tried to look a glamorous woman because I wanted to show today's women that life doesn't end after 10 years of marriage," said Singh, during the launch of the show that will air in Sony from January 30.

However, Singh, feels that television has moved towards a strong content after a decade of saas-bahu saga and reality shows.

"Television has changed so much in a decade time. The content of the shows have become strong and real like it used to be in 1980s. And these attributes of television have made the doors open for people from Bollywood to venture into it. I think it's the best phase of television," she added.

Singh, who also played a pivotal role in Aamir Khan starrer '3 Idiots', said she has been typecast in Bollywood after playing the character of a pregnant woman.

"Every offer which I get these days from Bollywood is to play a pregnant woman only. My character always revolve around pregnancy. I love to experiment and so I can't take up a role which I have played earlier in my life," she said.

But the actress is hopeful that now she might get some good offers for film after joining hands with Ekta.

"As I have joined Ekta now, I am hopeful that something good will happen to me. She is a brilliant and talented lady and hope she will give me a different role," she added.

Riteish and Genelia would be getting married next month, after being in relationship for eight years. (Bollywood Hungama) Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh, all excited about tying the knot with Genelia D'Souza, is a believer in the institution of matrimony.

Riteish and Genelia would be getting married next month, after being in relationship for eight years.

"I think it's an institution for much long time...since ages, and there is a reason why marriage has survived. I feel slowly, we are probably running away from it," Riteish said in an interview.

"I personally feel that once you find a person, with whom you truly think you can be with, then that commitment is for the lifetime."

The couple, who will marry on February 3, has refused to reveal how and where the wedding will take place.

Their romance began on the sets of 'Tujhe Meri Kasam', a debut film of both.

"I think when you are seeing each other for long...I don't think the question of freedom arises. You get used to each other so much. We both have been very private individuals. Today, that comfort level is going an extra step ahead with a commitment of lifetime," he said.

But what about losing freedom of bachelorhood? The actor does not mind that.

"I don't think there is any kind of fear as such...like my freedom is gone forever or something," he said.

"I was a bird happy sitting on a tree...I did not jump around many trees...so I am fine," he said with a chuckle.

Ritesh also confesses that he never racked his brains thinking whether Genelia was
