Review: 'Gali Gali Chor Hai' deals with common man - Zee News

Review: 'Gali Gali Chor Hai' deals with common man Zeenews Bureau

Bollywood has seldom come with a film based on the trials and tribulations of the common man. Given the fact that cinema is the reflection of society, the anti-corruption wave led by Gandhian Anna Hazare made some filmmakers realize their greater role in society, who have decided to come out with films that both entertain and send across a strong message to society. Director Rumy Jafry is one such filmmaker whose film deals with the dilemma of the common man. Starring Akshaye Khanna, Shriya Saran, Mugdha Godse, Satish Kaushik and Annu Kapoor, 'Gali Gali Chor Hai' is a light-hearted yet realistic take on everyman.

'Gali Gali Chor Hai' revolves around the life of Bharat (Akshaye Khanna), a bank cashier who plays part time Hanuman in the local Ram Leela. Happily married to Nisha (Shriya Saran), Bharat lives with his father Shivnarayan (Satish Kaushik). Things are fine until one day Bharat refuses to offer his home for political campaign of a local politician (Murli Sharma), whose younger brother (Amit Mistry) creates ruckus and gets Bharat embroiled in a controversy.

'Gali Gali Chor Hai' revolves around corruption and Bharat champions the cause of the common man, who takes up the cudgels to fight for justice. In the film, Hanuman becomes the metaphor and metonym of common man as Bharat takes on the corrupt system. The film highlights the dilemma of common man who is neck deep in corruption, frantically trying to seek justice. In 'Gali Gali Chor Hai', Akshaye has tremendous screen presence; he brings raw energy to his common man act which is instantly relatable. Akshaye is brilliant as Bharat and Shriya comes across as a demure beauty. Mugdha hardly gets any chance to show her acting talents. Veena Malik's item number looks out of place and at times gross.

There are a few digressions in the film when it tries to focus on dirty politics but it's the powerful performances and engaging storyline that brings life to 'Gali Gali Chor Hai'. The film champions the cause of common man in the middle-class milieu, something that makes it realistic and more relatable.

Ratings: Three cheers for this one!

Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was to give away the Green Globe award to Abhishek, was missing in action

I have no clue as to what happened. I heard he was supposed to be here but right now I have no news or confirmation," said Abhishek Bachchan while referring to the visit of Hollywood superstar and former US governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was supposed to present AB Junior with an award at a ceremony in the capital on Thursday. Schwarzenegger was slated to present Bachchan with the Green Globe for Outstanding Efforts By A Celebrity for his efforts towards a greener future at the fourth edition of the Green Globe Foundation Awards, but he never showed up.

Abhishek was not the only one - equally clueless about the actor's whereabouts were the guests, winners, nominees and mediapersons present at the venue.

Schwarzenegger did not even show up for the dinner that followed the awards ceremony. But, while everyone wondered where he was and the reason for his missing the ceremony (of which he was the guest of honour), Arnie reportedly was enjoying a cigar sitting by the poolside of the hotel lobby. According to a source, "Arnold was wearing a light brown suit and he sat by the poolside puffing a cigar. His security guards surrounded him and did not let me and my friends get an autograph. My friend asked him about the next "Terminator" movie while he was casually strolling around the lobby but he simply smiled and walked away."

A staff member of the hotel said, "Arnold arrived on Wednesday night. He was here for a green summit. He barely left his room all day but came out to enjoy a cigar. He did not talk to anyone and uske aaspaas hamesha paanch security guards ghum rahe the."

Although Abhishek may not have had a chance to receive an award from Arnold, he said he doesn't mind working with the "Terminator" actor for a greener future. "If given a chance I would love to work with Arnold. If he (Schwarzenegger) thinks I'm worthy of working with him on any initiative towards a greener tomorrow, then I'd be more than happy to help him," he said.

Bollywood lovebirds Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza had a traditional Marathi wedding on Friday at a Mumbai five-star, even as many from B-town's A-list, the political power set and the city's Page 3 swish set turned up to wish the young couple.

A beaming Riteish arrived on horseback in the morning even as his father, former chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, led the baraat.

The groom donned an embellished sherwani with a baashingh, a traditional Maratha ornament, adorning his forehead over a red saafa.

The atmosphere was one of grand celebration as a long line of Laavni dancers dressed in colourful attire ushered the baraat into the venue as traditional musicians played the flute and the nagada. Genelia's mother Jeanette led the welcome of the baraatis.

The wedding took place shortly after noon, once the baraatis - comprising the groom's family members, a few of his industry buddies and political associates of Deshmukh senior - had settled down.

The tech-savvy Riteish didn't waste time in going online to share the good news with fans.

He tweeted a picture of himself and his blushing bride captioned 'Mr & Mrs Deshmukh'.

Genelia looked resplendent in a Marathi get-up. She wore a red paithani saree designed by Neeta Lulla, teamed with a huge nath and baashingh along with kundan and gold ornaments.

I had knees of a 65-yr-old: Bipasha Basu - Times of India

Bipasha Basu talks about her osteoarthritis and how she is dealing with it

That a journalist called her 'fat' some years ago, which spurred her to embark on a weight reduction spree is well known. However, a lesser known fact is that it is equally Bipasha's osteoarthritis condition, which goes back to 2005, which is to blame for her fitness fetish.

Talking to Mumbai Mirror, the actress recalled the time when she was shooting for Anees Bazmee's No Entry. "I was quite overweight and used to cover myself intelligently so that I didn't end up looking fat. I realised I needed to shed weight," she revealed.

In a tearing hurry to get into shape, Bipasha started running... on roads, the treadmill... without help from a professional trainer. "I had no knowledge about health and fitness and even went on crash diets. Suddenly, I started getting excruciating pain in my knees, with days when I could barely stand. I spoke to Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan and many other colleagues, who recommended some top doctors," the actress said.

She was advised to undergo a MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and the reports made her go numb with shock. "They said I was suffering from an extreme condition. My knees had become like that of a 65-year-old person," she remembered. Even more shocking was learning that her condition was extremely rare in youngsters. It made her wonder, "Why did I get it? Where do I go from here?"

One of the doctors told her she wouldn't be able to do any action sequences or even stand for long hours. Another medico advised her bed rest. "I wept for three days and nights at a stretch. My parents were out and I just didn't know what was happening," revealed Bips. On the fourth day though, the actress gathered all her courage and told herself, "It can't be this way, I need to fight it out. You live life only once, don't you?"

That was only the beginning of Bipasha's struggles. She spoke to Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh, both fitness freaks. She started reading, buying all sorts of books, surfing the internet for information. It was then that she met sports physiotherapist Himakshi Basu, who assured her she would be able to do most of the things sooner or later except that patience was key. The first ultimatum Himakshi gave Bipasha was to lose weight, especially around her knees. "I got into weight training. Importantly, I was told to strengthen my thigh and butt muscles to maintain the correct balance so as to offset the weak knees," Bipasha revealed.

There are things she has been advised not to do like wearing heels or walking down stairs. She has also been asked to do twenty minutes in the gym before starting her other workouts. And while the condition is definitely better than what it was say two or three years ago, Bipasha rues the fact that she is still living with osteoarthritis. "I am still under therapy and will always be... throughout my life. However now, I do it myself."

The good news is that Bipasha, who is looking forward to her next release Jodi Breakers has come out a winner from her experience. "When you have such a condition, it ends up making you very strong mentally. I feel physically strong too. I can kick like a footballer," she laughed.

By her own admission, the actress is taking Glucosamine Chondrotin supplements to counter further cartilage damage. "You realise that being beautiful and sexy is not all that matters. Rather, you need to respect the body you are born with," she said.

What experts say

Osteoarthritis is a disorder, mainly caused due to wear and tear of the joint muscles. Also known as Degenerative Joint Disease, Osteoarthritis involves degradation of the articular cartilage and subchondral bone.

"The condition is manageable in the initial stages. If one follows the physical exercise and diet regime," said Dr Ameet Pispati, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon attached to Jaslok and Bhatia hospital. Commonly seen in elderly patients, experts say that the trend has shifted to the younger generation due to excessive activities. "Physiotherapy helps in mobility of the affected muscles," said physiotherapist Dr Ali Irani, who has been treating celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan. - Jyoti Shelar

'Slapgate' reportage affecting my kids: Shah Rukh Khan - Times of India

Bollywood badshah Shah Rukh Khan Wednesday refused to categorically state whether he had slapped Shirish Kunder or not but said the reportage on the incident was affecting his kids.

"Lots of things are being said about my life in news channels but the stuff which you put up in the channels are not the whole truth. This is embarrassing at times as I have a 14-year-old son and an 11-and-a-half year old daughter," said Shah Rukh, who was in the city to address a programme.

The Bollywood badshah felt it was embarrassing for a father to explain certain issues to his children.

"Every morning it becomes very difficult to explain to your children and it becomes embarrassing as a father, as a brother or as elder son of the family to explain about what is stated," he told reporters.

Shah Rukh reportedly roughed up editor-filmmaker Shirish, the husband of his former friend Farah Khan, in the wee hours of Monday during Sanjay Dutt's success party for "Agneepath".

"Bollywood stories are presented in a larger than life way... I have read the headlines. Yeah, some of them have not happened and some of them might have happened, but I would like to keep it to myself," he remarked.

Describing Farah as a very old friend, Shah Rukh regretted the reports that have been published about his differences with her.

"I have heard things that have been stated about us and it's very difficult for people to sit down and read things in the house. In our house, the kids call her Farah aunty. It's really sad when for last two years people say she said this and that... None of that is happening," he said.

However, he sounded hopeful of settling the differences.

"We can resolve our issues... certain issues we can resolve with hugs and happiness and I want to keep it personal," he said.
