Imran Khan: I was labelled a one-film-wonder Posted: 10 Feb 2012 11:19 AM PST At 29, Imran Khan has learnt just how fickle Bollywood can be — being born in a film family can be a good thing but not always. He has learned it the hard way. His career was launched by uncle Aamir Khan with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na that was a huge success. It was followed by a couple of box office duds, which resulted in a lean period. Eventually, his career picked up. As he gets ready for the release of his eighth film, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Imran sat down with Aseem Chhabra in New York, reflecting on fame, his career, and the US, a country with which he has a special relationship. Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is the first film you have made in the US. What is the difference in shooting a film in India and the US? In India, you never, ever have a set with less than 80 or 100 people. It's insane. So you are literally climbing over people, stumbling into them. I am used to acting like that where I am looking at the camera, with a dozen guys running behind and someone is yelling 'Yeh hata, hata' during the take. And suddenly I am here and there is silence. When I saw one guy behind the camera, I asked 'Where is everyone?' and I was told 'No sir that is all we need.' Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu review – “A perfect date movie” Posted: 10 Feb 2012 09:11 AM PST Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu review - "A perfect date movie", 10.0 out of 10 based on 1 rating For those who swear by sentimental movies and are die-hard fans of rom-coms, who fervently wish Valentine's Day is prolonged eternally, EK MAIN AUR EKK TU is akin to an answer to this yearning. Rom-coms relaxing in the splendor of harmonious compositions, a creative and innovative take on present-day romance, pulsating images and timed during the Valentine week… aah, you can't ask for more! It's said that that good friendship, by and large, transforms into romance and consequently, marriage. But hold on… what if one marries by mistake? In EK MAIN AUR EKK TU, two responsible adults meet, get married in a jiffy [it's a mistake, they realize the next morning], but this faux pas is the turning point in their lives. That's the essence of EK MAIN AUR EKK TU. The plotline of EK MAIN AUR EKK TU may bring back memories of WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS and the Mexican film RECIEN CAZADO, but EK MAIN AUR EKK TU is no adaptation of those films. Agree, the trailers might make you conclude it could be an imitation, but it's not. EK MAIN AUR EKK TU is shades apart from the above named movies. Imagine a guy who has lived his entire life based on decisions taken by his parents. Come to think of it, he's not living his life, but his parent's expectations. And then comes a girl who opens his eyes and shows him what he's missing out on. EK MAIN AUR EKK TU is more of a coming-of-age story, essentially. Hrithik Roshan finally quits smoking Posted: 10 Feb 2012 08:24 AM PST Actor gave up smoking three months ago; hasn't lit up since Sarita Tanwar (BOMBAY TIMES; February 8, 2012) Hrithik Roshan has given up smoking. It has been three months since his last cigarette. The actor says, "I wanted to give up smoking. I tried quitting five times before and failed. I tried nicotine patches and other methods, but nothing worked. I wanted to kick the habit so I began researching how to. I spoke to people who had quit, went online and read articles, saw testimonials of people on YouTube… I kept checking, and then finally I came across this book Alan Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking, I ordered that book and the day I finished the book was the day I smoked my last ciggie." The best thing about the book is that it doesn't tell you to give up smoking. In fact, it encourages you to light up while reading, and tells you to enjoy it. It does not talk poorly about smoking, or lungs and cancer, which is the best part. But by the time you are nearing the end, you don't want to smoke anymore. It has worked for me, and I want more people to know about this and give up the habit. The book explains to you what addiction is and once you understand it, you are not addicted anymore." The book has helped international celebrities like Madonna, Anthony Hopkins and Ashton Kutcher to kick the habit. Hrithik adds, "Yes, I have read testimonials by all these people. I hope people have an open mind. We cannot live as islands. We cannot have so much ego that a book cannot help us. We are here to help each other, we cannot survive by ourselves. People are around us to help us. In fact, I was so impressed with the book that I bought 20 copies and offered them to Shah Rukh Khan and Farhan Akhtar but they didn't want to read it. When I told Salman about the book he pointed to his head and said, "It has to come from here." I agree. No one can force or influence you. It has to be your decision. Like it was for me. And I have failed five times before but this time I have given it up for good." Such is his willpower that he doesn't get tempted to smoke now, even when he is among people, blowing smoke rings around him. Guess the message that Duggu wants to put out there is: If I can, so can you! LINK |
My views on Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and Ayesha-Sidhartha war Posted: 10 Feb 2012 07:31 AM PST My views on Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and Ayesha-Sidhartha war, 8.0 out of 10 based on 2 ratings WILL IMRAN-KAREENA JODI WORK AT THE BOX OFFICE? Over the years, Bollywood failed to come up with a nice love story or romcom during Valentine's Day time. But thankfully, this year, there are 2 such films that will hit the screens, one before the festival of love and one after. The first one is Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (EMAET) that is all set to release tomorrow. From the promos, EMAET looks like a fresh and lovely story of 2 drastically opposite youths who get married in a drunken state at Las Vegas. Though this reminds one of What Happens In Vegas, the fact is that both the films are as different as chalk and cheese. One of the highlights of EMAET will be Imran Khan's characterization. The actor plays a confused and boring guy who is completely dominated by his parents in every sphere of his life. Moreover, his parents in the film are none other than Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah. Imran's scenes with Ratna were the highpoints in his debut film, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na and it would be great if they both recreate the same magic. Also, it would be fun to witness Imran and Boman for the first time. However, the film rests on the excellent chemistry between Imran and his co-star Kareena Kapoor. Although Kareena is older to Imran in real life, the same doesn't reflect at all in the film promos and posters and moreover, both look fabulous together. The songs of the film are by Amit Trivedi and although aren't topping the chartbusters, the album has got a reasonably favourable response! As mentioned above, promos are fresh and it seems debutant director Shakun Batra (who played the bespectacled Pappu in Jaane Tu) knows his job well! However, there are few odds going on against the film. The film is a coming of age love story and involves characters getting married in drunken state, thereby undermining the institution of marriage held sacred by Indians. Moreover, there's a scene in the promo where the couple were asked presumably by a counselor/marriage authority whether they had sex and Kareena replies that yes she did but not with Imran! Scenes and moments like these in the film are bound to be disapproved strongly by the traditional thinking audiences. And like every other film that looks promising from the promos, EMAET too has high chances of turning out to be a disappointing fare. And this would surely prove detrimental for the commercial prospects of the film. EMAET definitely won't have a record opening like Agneepath but is surely expected to open decently. And if film gets thumbs up, it would surely excel on Saturday-Sunday and also on Tuesday (Valentine's Day)! WOULD YOU LIKE TO WATCH EK MAIN AUR EKK TU AND WHY? DO LET ME KNOW! AYESHA TAKIA-SIDHARTHA MALLYA WAR OF WORDS: MY VIEWS! If SRK-Shirish jhagda dominated the news last week, this week the place was taken over by the war of words between Ayesha Takia and Sidhartha Mallya. It all started with a hate tweet by Ayesha on Twitter about Ayesha's sister Natasha's bad experience with Kingfisher Airlines, owned by Sidhartha's dad Vijay Mallya. Readers started retweeting Ayesha's tweet and also tagging Sidhartha and thereby informing him about the same. The Mallya scion retaliated in a very harsh manner and soon it led to a huge fight between the 2. According to airline officials present at the time of mishap, Natasha was to blame and that they never tore off her boarding pass, as alleged by her and Ayesha. Even if the Takia's were at fault, the accused party is supposed to respond in an ethical and professional manner. But instead, Sidhartha, despite not knowing the true picture makes insulting remarks like "Not too sure who she (Ayesha) is, an actor of some sorts?" Sidhartha's father Vijay is known to care a lot for his customers and has even personally responds to the complaint mails sent to him. It's high time his son gets some lessons from his dad! DO LET ME KNOW YOUR VIEWS! |
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara ripoff shelved Posted: 10 Feb 2012 07:01 AM PST Subhash K Jha (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 8, 2012) Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan and Kunal Roy Kapoor were supposed to holiday together for Mohit Suri's film produced by Ramesh Taurani. But just in time, the team discovered that the film was eerily similar to Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD). Hence, they decided to shelve the project. A source told Mumbai Mirror, "Rather than risk being labelled a copycat, Taurani has decided to shelve the film, wasting the actors' already blocked dates. Who would have accepted another film about three guys on a journey of self-discovery so soon after the original film?" When contacted, Ramesh Taurani didn't revert. Interestingly, there are at least three other films based on the same theme by Rohit Jugraj, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and David Dhawan. LINK |
Deepika’s behaviour unprofessional-Ramesh Taurani Posted: 10 Feb 2012 06:07 AM PST Ramesh Taurani slams the actress for leaving Race 2 midway Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; February 9, 2012) Deepika Padukone's decision to walk out of Race 2, after shooting for it for six days, has not gone down too well with producer Ramesh Taurani. Annoyed with the actress for leaving him in the lurch, Taurani lashed out at the actress, labelling her behaviour as "unethical, unprofessional and unacceptable". "I have been a part of the Hindi cinema industry for 25 years. I have made several blockbusters. I have worked with famous actresses like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Vidya Balan and Kareena Kapoor. But I have never faced a situation like this before," thundered Taurani. Deepika, it may be recalled, had signed Taurani's project after an initial phase of indecisiveness. However, after the film went on floors, the actress upped and left leaving the Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Amisha Patel and Jacqueline starrer in jeopardy. "Earlier, in October, we had to change our schedule since Deepika had date problems. This was due to her film with Ayan Mukerji to be produced by Karan Johar. At the time, I had spoken to Karan and worked out a schedule that would help Deepika manage both the projects. Now, when everything is in place, she just walks out after six days of shoot. What can I say? We are left with no choice. Our directors and the other actors are extremely annoyed with her," said the troubled producer. Taurani, having adjusted his dates for Deepika, had even postponed the Turkey schedule to May-June for her. "She gave us 90 days. Fifteen days in February, 45 days in May-June and 20 days in July. We had assured her that we wouldn't waste any of her dates," explained Taurani. However, on January 27, Taurani was in for a shock. "On that day, people kept calling me asking whether Deepika was out of Race 2. I was clueless. I called her and asked her. She simply said that she would come to my office by 5 pm with her new manager to work out everything. At around 3 pm, she called to say that she wouldn't be able to keep the appointment. However, her manager would be present on her behalf. Finally, when the manager arrived, he simply told me that Deepika wouldn't be able to do our film. And that's because she is doing a major Hollywood project. Now imagine!" Taurani shrugs. Taurani did not give up on Deepika still. After she came back from LA, he went to meet her. "I went to Kurla where she was shooting. We tried to reason it out with her. But she refused to even listen. Forget about anything else, she did not even apologise for her action. She seems to have no remorse," the producer says. To rub salt on sore wounds, Deepika announced that she would be doing Rajinikanth's next film. A visibly rattled Taurani hasn't been able to decide on his next course of action. "We haven't decided whether to take legal action against Deepika. For the time being, we are in the process of finding the right replacement for her," said Taurani. The actress' camp however, had a different story to tell. When contacted, a close friend of Deepika complained, "Constant delays are the reason Deepika's can't do Race 2. When the first delay happened, she adjusted her dates and shot for two days. But then again, she was informed that the dates were being changed. She would have liked to do the film but she couldn't accommodate the new set of dates. She has conveyed her apologies to Ramesh Taurani. She had liked the script but unfortunately is not being able to juggle her dates any longer." LINK |

Ayesha Takia to take legal action against airline Posted: 10 Feb 2012 03:17 AM PST By Subhash K. Jha,February 08, 2012 – 00:17 hrs IST A day after Ayesha Takia tweeted about her sister Natasha being allegedly mistreated by an airline's personnel, the actress is still fuming and is determined to take legal action against the airline, Kingfisher.Making it worse was a taunting tweet by the airline owner's son Sidhartha Mallya which implied he was unaware of who Ayesha Takia and what the hullabaloo she was creating was all about. Laughing off the jibe, Ayesha scoffs, "We're getting our lawyers to send a letter to the airline to take action against their staff. The letter will reach the airline authorities shortly. I was tweeting about how the airline staff treated Natasha. I didn't make any personal comments on anyone. So if someone has a personal grudge against me that's his problem." Recounting the alleged horror that her sister went through, Ayesha says, "A senior staff member of an airline at Delhi airport misbehaved with my sister. He sent her back and forth from counter to counter for four hours even when she said she was unwell. They threatened to throw her out of the airport if she kept questioning and pressurizing them for her ticket. Then they tore her boarding pass and told her to buy a new one if she wanted to fly back to Mumbai on their airline." Continuing with the tale of trauma, Ayesha says, "Natasha had to buy a new ticket from Air India. Since she was travelling alone beyond a point, she didn't want to deal with the rudeness of the allegedly misbehaved airline ground-staff." BOLLYWOOD HUNGAMA.COM LINK |

Report: Riteish & Genelia Big Fat Bollywood Wedding! Posted: 09 Feb 2012 10:34 PM PST There were lights, cameras and definitely a lot of action. Riteish's and Genelia's big fat Bollywood fairy tale wedding was no different from a glamorous Bollywood film. First there was a friendship then a love story followed by some twists in the tale, a lavish series of wedding functions and ofcourse a happy ending! Read on to find out all the details. The Love Story Riteish and Genelia met first in 2003 for their debut film Tujhe Meri Kasam (DVD of which is yet to see the light of the day so you can stop Googling now!). Rumour has it that Genelia wasn't quite keen on the project and signed up for it only after much convincing. They had quite the filmi encounter in which Genelia put in all her energy to give her new co-star all the attitude she could put together simply because she assumed the CM's son would be a spoiled brat so she must get ahead in the game. Boy was she wrong! But like a good Bollywood romance they soon discovered there was much to the other person than they'd assumed. At the time Genelia was in college in Ritiesh was in his 20s (there's a 4 year gap between the couple) so no serious relationship talk was done but a sweet friendship was struck. She'd talk about college and exams and he'd gush about architecture. It was only after they finished a schedule of their film together in Hyderabad that the couple realised that kuch toh baat hai as they soon started missing each other when they returned home. As the days progressed their friendship became stronger. The media hounded them for a confirmation of their relationship which we never got until the announcement of the wedding in early 2012, 9 years after they met. Till date the couple maintain that they're friends before anything else. Hence why the formalities in their relationship have been nil including no official proposal by Riteish nor an official engagement ring! (Ladies you can stop gasping now!) And there you have it, the filmi tale of Riteish – Genelia's love story in a nutshell! Now for all the details of their big day, or shall we say, big week! Invitation Buzz is that the wedding was being planned in a hush hush way for a long time hence the amazing turn out at all the functions. Apparently Riteish and Genelia had asked all their close friends and in particular their filmi friends to keep their work schedules clear for the weekend, as they didn't want anyone to be absent for what was to be the most important days of their lives. We hear that many of their friends took time out from their busy schedules, flew in from far and wide to be at the events. The invitation that was sent out to guests was a threefold card inviting everyone to the Sangeet (31st Jan), Shaadi (4th February) & Reception (5th February). A Bandra based design company crafted the invites for the couple, who incidentally also were involved in other celeb weddings such as that of Lara Dutta and Hrithik Roshan. The cards came inside a wooden box with the couple's initials R and G engraved on it. Complimenting the card were handmade chocolates that also carried their intials on it. (Can we get a awwww…) Pre Wedding Bash Sajid Nadiawala, Fardeen Khan and their respective other halves planned the couple's pre-wedding bash. The venue was Royality Bandra and the event saw an array of stars attending. Sangeet At any B-Town wedding the sangeet is the event everyone wants ALL the details of! Well here it is. This was the filmiest of all the shaadi festivities as it was organised and directed by none other than KJO! (Karan Johar for the non-Tweeples). It all took place at the Taj Land's End and the couple themselves had a very special performance planned for their guests. Karan also gifted Riteish the outfit he wore for the evening whilst Genelia's outfit was done by Manish Malhotra. Whilst the sangeet was a closed event paparazzi's outside the venue made sure all the guests were snapped as they entered and there was much snapping to be done as B-Town arrived in all its glory! Word is that KJo even got some of the industry biggies to shake a leg on the night. There's also a much talked about leaked video from the sangeet making the rounds on the Internet. (But do finish reading before you rush off to Youtube it!) Marathi Wedding Our dulhe raja (groom) set off with his band baaja baraat at 11am from his Juhi premises. As it turns out the Deshmukhs danced the whole way and didn't mind being in the public eye for such a private event. The bridal party waited for their arrival at the venue, a suburban five star hotel and the wedding began at the auspicious time of 12.48pm. Neeta Lulla was the designer of Genelia's wedding saree whilst Neeta's daughter Nishka Lulla styled Genelia for the big day. (They both are quite the close friends.) Luckily for fans the couple were all too glad to share their big day with the world and tweeted quite regularly throughout the whole day including tweeting a pic promptly after the ceremony concluded! (Don't you just love tech savvy celebs!) Compared to the political presence at the function the B-Town presence fell a little behind however some very notable personalities took time out from their schedule for the event such as Ajay & Kajol Devgn, Karan Johar, Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Abhishek & Jaya Bachchan, to name a few. Christian Wedding > Ofcourse it is all too well known that Genelia is a Mangalorean Catholic who is deeply religious. Therefore it was no surprise that the couple followed up the Marathi ceremony with a Christian ceremony at St Anne's Church in Bandra the following day. The ceremony was rather private however the good'ol paparazzi managed to snap quite a few shots of the couple both in and outside the church, including some of the guests who attended. Amongst the few who attended the very private affair that had mostly family and friends were Karan Johar, Hussain & Tina Kujerwala and Siddharth. It is believed that whilst the Marathi wedding had a number of Riteish's guests, the church wedding had more of Genelia's crowd. Riteish's parents were not present at the event however his brothers were. (One now wonders that perhaps the rumours of Mr Vilasrao Deshmukh initially being resistant to the relationship due to the cultural clash wasn't completely ill founded.) Genelia's wedding gown was designed by none other than Shantanu & Nikhil who are all too well known for their fabulous gowns. The couple set off in a decorated car by which time word has spread that Genelia and Riteish were in the vicinity. Reception The reception at the Grand Hyatt Hotel was the celebration that saw the most number of B-town stars in attendance. Genelia opted for a Falguni & Shane Peacock lehenga for the star-studded event. Guests present for the reception that we'd not seen earlier at any of the celebrations were Saif & Kareena, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Sridevi, Arjun Rampal and Kangana Ranuat, to name a few. Happily Every After! And with that we wrap this all too familiar filmi journey of Riteish and Genelia's, from pyaar to shaadi! It would definitely make for a lovely rom-com don't you think?! We hear the couple are now going to whisk off to an unknown location for a lovely honeymoon! Bollyspice wishes the happy couple all the very best for this beautiful new chapter of their lives they're about to begin. |
Cast dance in real downpour on the sets of ‘BollyBrit’ film, Naachle London Posted: 09 Feb 2012 09:47 PM PST On one of the filming days for Naachle London, director Neville Raschid was anticipating a glorious, sunny day at Kew Gardens in preparation of outdoor scenes, as well as inside the infamous Greenhouse. But once the crew began shooting the sequences inside the Greenhouse, the heavens opened up, inducing the wettest day of the year instead of the hottest! As the crew were setting up between shots, British screen heartthrob Jake Canuso informed Neville that he was happy to dance in the rain and duly stepped outside. Neville then asked Fagun Thakrar, Jake's co-star, and she was equally willing to take up the challenge, after looking outside to see Jake already getting his hair wet and practicing his moves in the downpour. And by pure serendipity, some of the most stunning shots of the film were created… with entirely natural rain and no need for rain machines! Heralding the debut of an exciting genre in British filmmaking, dynamic, Asian family business-driven, UK-based production and distribution company, Aviary Films, launches the first ever 'BollyBrit' film – Naachle London – a unique cinematic offering that presents a British take on the classic Bollywood genre. Satyajit Ray: A Movie Legend Remembered Posted: 09 Feb 2012 07:32 PM PST The Indian film industry is probably the most prolific in the entire world. According to the latest count in 2010, India ranks the first in production of movies followed by Hollywood and China. But of the huge pantheon of regional and national Indian stars present in Indian cinema, Satyajit Ray is an icon who cannot be forgotten. His unique perspective on Indian life and his impact on Bengali, as well as, Indian cinema cannot be forgotten. Satyajit Ray was born 2 May 1921 to Sukumar Ray and Suprabhar Roy. His entire family was steeped in literature, socialism and music. This love for journalism, art and cinema was transferred quickly to the young mind of the growing boy. His father passed away when he was three but his mother always insisted on a world-class education for the boy and he was quickly enrolled in the Visva-Bharati University at Santiniketan, that was set up by world famous poet Rabindranath Tagore. He developed most of his interests in Oriental art traditional Indian art during this period of time. After completing his education, he gained work at the D.J. Keymer advertising agency as an illustrator. But the job did not satisfy his critical and artistic sensibilities. However, when he changed jobs to the Signet Press, he was given complete artistic freedom to design book covers and this made him very happy. Most of his artwork is still around in the form of book covers for popular novels of the time like Jim Corbett's Maneaters of Kumaon, Jibanananda Das's Banalata Sen, and Rupasi Bangla, and Jawaharlal Nehru's Discovery of India. Original artwork from the book covers and theater posters which he created during his spare time are still available at auctions and they are very valuable. During the latter period of his life, he also invested and resurrected SANDESH, a children's magazine. His illustrations and writing for the magazine became his livelihood during his retirement. His interest in cinema bloomed after he met French director Jean Renoir who had come down to Calcutta to shoot his film THE RIVER. His first film PATHER PANCHALI became a classic runaway hit in India and abroad and was primarily responsible for focusing international interest on Indian films. There was no looking back after that. Films like APARAJITO, PARASH PATHAR, JALSAGHAR etc were local and international favorites. Local and international film awards followed quickly and Satyajit Ray quickly became a hot favorite on the international art film scene. Although he was internationally recognized, Hollywood created a bad taste for his. His script ALIEN was adapted by Mike Wilson and Satyajit Ray was extremely disappointed. He insisted that he was not paid for the script and he also insisted that his script formed the basis for the hugely famous runaway hit ET which was released later on in 1982. However, he was unable to prove the charges and nothing came of it. By the year 1984, Satyajit had become bedridden and sick. He was unable to direct at oudoor locations and most of his movies were then shot at indoor sets. These movies became significantly important as they focused on cutting-edge dialog rather than lighting and sets for the mood. However, his health deteriorated quickly in the next nine years. His first and last Academy Award was presented at his bedside two weeks before he expired.
